Extremely desirable winner’s medal issued for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and awarded to a player, coach, or staff member from Spain’s national football team. Gilt, 104 gm, 58 mm, by Bertoni of Milan. The front depicts the World Cup trophy in relief with raised text, “FIFA World Cup”; and the reverse features the raised text: “2010, FIFA World Cup, South Africa.” The handsome medal hangs from its original blue FIFA ribbon.
The finals of the 19th FIFA World Cup were held in South Africa between June 11 and July 11, 2010, marking the premiere instance in which the event was hosted on the African continent. After an opening loss to Switzerland, the Spanish national team won their remaining six matches—the last four by a 1-0 score line—to earn their first and only World Cup victory; Spain became the third team to win a World Cup outside their own continent and the first European team to ever do so. A magnificent keepsake that honors Spain’s greatest athletic achievement.

Müller has been praised for his positioning, teamwork and stamina, work-rate, and has shown consistency in both scoring and creating goals. He is also widely regarded as one of the best off-the-ball players of all time due to his immaculate positional awareness. Due to numerous strengths in his game, he is also widely regarded as one of the most complete attacking players in the game.
A product of Bayern’s youth system, Müller has been representing the German team ever since. He made his first-team breakthrough in the 2009–10 season after Louis van Gaal was appointed as the main coach; he played almost every game as the club won the league and cup double and reached the Champions League final. Müller scored 23 goals in the 2012–13 season as Bayern won a historic treble; the league title, cup and Champions League. He broke the Bundesliga record for assists by providing 21 in a season (a record in the top five leagues jointly held with Lionel Messi in La Liga) and scored 14 goals as Bayern won a second treble in the 2019–20 season.
Müller earned a call-up to the German national team in 2010. At the 2010 World Cup, he scored five goals in six appearances as Germany finished in third place. He was named the Best Young Player of the tournament and won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, with five goals and three assists. At the 2014 World Cup he played a major role in helping the team win the trophy, scoring five goals and receiving the Silver Ball as the tournament’s second top player and the Silver Boot as the second top goalscorer, and was also named in the World Cup All Star XI and in the Dream Team. In 2014, Müller was ranked the fifth-best footballer in the world by The Guardian. Müller is the most decorated player in German history, with his 28 trophies surpassing Bastian Schweinsteiger’s total of 26.

It was an emotionally-charged evening, a farewell which then-Hammers manager Slaven Bilic described ‘like a movie’.
Scenes outside the ground initially marred the event as the victors’ bus arrived late and was greeted by bottles and objects.
But inside it, the famous arena’s last hurrah saw ‘Abide With Me’ played before kick-off with legends’ names appearing on screen, Bobby Moore’s fittingly getting the best reception, with a closing ceremony full of club legends following an eventful match.
It was a clash which saw Man United’s Champions League hopes dashed as the Hammers boosted their chances of Europa League football in their first campaign at the London Stadium.
How fitting it was that a homegrown hero in Mark Noble was man of the match as things came together and Bilic’s men showed plenty of promise for the following season.
Kick-off was delayed due to events outside and the sheer numbers of people on the streets. Once it eventually got underway, Diafra Sakho put the hosts ahead on 10 minutes, a great start to an evening of celebration.
The next part was not in the script as a quick-fire double from Anthony Martial midway through the second half threatened to rain on the east Londoners’ parade.
But what happened in the next eight minutes was incredible, as Michail Antonio drew them level four minutes later and then Winston Reid put the hosts ahead with the last ever goal at the ground. You can imagine the scenes.
A much deserved victory and a fine way to end 112 years at the Boleyn Ground.
They have since had an eventful few years both on and off the field, not helped by their move to the venue which was originally built to host the 2012 London Olympics.
Oh, how West Ham fans would love another match at Upton Park…
